Did you know there’s a right way to dust your home? While the market is flooded with all sorts of cleaning products
for dusting, the way you dust matters most in making your home fresh and clean. To help control a dusty home, have a
plan.

Wait to vacuum

One of the most important tips for a dust-free home is to wait until you’re finished dusting to vacuum. While it
might seem smart to get the vacuuming out of the way early, you only make more work for yourself once you start
dusting. All the dust particles will fall onto your clean floors and undo your effort. Make sure to wait until
you’re done before breaking out the vacuum cleaner.

Where to start

When you’re trying to tackle cleaning the entire house, it can be difficult to decide where to start. The best
strategy is to start at the doorway of any room and work your way inward. Some major places to be sure you dust are:

  • Bookshelves.
  • Televisions & electronics.
  • Baseboards.
  • Countertops.
  • Kitchen appliances.
  • Door frames.

The deeper the clean, the more individual areas of focus you’ll need. For routine dusting, you can do more of a
once-over approach. This way, you won’t need to spend hours on dusting each time you go to clean your home if you
keep up with it.

Commonly forgotten areas

Don’t forget to dust these other key areas in your home when you’re doing a deep clean:

  • Vents.
  • Corners of rooms.
  • Doors.
  • Lights.
  • Picture frames.
  • Lampshades.

There are some ways you can reduce dust buildup, like replacing wall-to-wall carpet with hardwood and area rugs. Use
doormats at each entrance to your home to help keep the dust and particles from outside from getting further into
the house.
